Your route to EMEC expertise before real-sea demonstration

Drawing on more than two decades of experience supporting offshore renewable energy innovation, EMEC helps developers navigate the pathway from concept through to real-world deployment.

The Developers Club gives wave and tidal energy developers a practical way to access expertise during the early stages of technology development.

Whether you’re developing an early-stage concept, refining a technology design or preparing for lab tests, the Developers Club provides access to EMEC’s expertise to help move your project forward. Discuss technical challenges, review plans, test ideas and draw on real-world experience as you progress towards real-sea deployment.

Technical Timebank

Your annual membership includes a 60-hour Technical Timebank that can be used flexibly across a range of technical, commercial and project development activities.

Support may include:

  • Technical discussions and guidance
  • One-to-one meetings with EMEC specialists
  • Workshops and problem-solving sessions
  • Expert review and feedback of documents and plans
  • Technology assessment and benchmarking
  • Metocean, environmental and consenting support
  • Guidance on project development, communications, stakeholder engagement and commercialisation

The timebank allows you to access tailored support and expertise when you need it, focusing your membership on the areas most relevant to your project.

Download our Developers Club services menu for an overview of the support available, or explore EMEC’s services online in more detail.

Why join?

The Developers Club helps you progress your technology towards demonstration and commercialisation by helping you:

  • Identify technical, project and commercial risks and opportunities early
  • Prepare for tank testing and real-sea demonstration
  • Strengthen the technical and economic case for your technology through targeted validation and development support
  • Benefit from independent challenge and expert input informed by over 20 years’ experience supporting offshore renewable energy innovation

Whether you’re refining a concept, preparing for the next stage of development or working through a specific challenge, the Developers Club provides access to expertise that can help move your project forward.

Annual Developers Club Symposium

Each year, you’ll be invited to the Developers Club Symposium in Orkney.

Through site visits, discussions and networking, you’ll be able to engage directly with EMEC staff, fellow developers and Orkney’s world-leading marine energy supply chain, gaining practical insights to support the next stage of our technology and project development.

Growing a community of developers

As the Developers Club grows, we intend to create opportunities for members to connect, share experiences and learn from one another, helping to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange across the sector.

“We engage with a lot of early-stage developers keen to tap into EMEC’s expertise but are not yet ready for real-sea demonstration.

“Designed to meet the needs of developers at technology readiness levels (TRL) 1-6, the Developers Club bridges the innovation gap between concept and deployment, offering access to support and guidance to help projects progress through tank testing, real-sea demonstration and ultimately commercialisation.”
