The University of Edinburgh: RealTIDE C-ADP
Technology
As part of the Horizon 2020 RealTIDE project, The University of Edinburgh has developed a convergent beam Acoustic Doppler Profiler (C-ADP) to improve flow measurement in complex flow environments in the vicinity of offshore technologies.
Test programme at EMEC
The C-ADP was deployed at EMEC’s Fall of Warness tidal test site in summer 2021 where it operated 6 independent flow-measurement sensors and two acoustic Doppler Profilers autonomously, powered by multiple batteries and controlled by its own on-board computer.
During deployment, the device collected vast amounts of data that will ultimately aim to give us a better understanding of the fluid behaviour in the vicinity of offshore renewable energy devices.
