AW Energy
Founded in 2002 in Finland, AW-Energy is focused on developing its wave energy converter – WaveRoller.
The WaveRoller device is a plate anchored on the sea bottom. The back and forth movement of the tidal surge moves the plate, transferring the kinetic energy created to a piston pump.
The company was the second developer to use EMEC’s facilities, and the first to test sub-systems at EMEC, when it tested components for the WaveRoller device at Billia Croo in 2005. The device was fully submerged, deployed at a depth of about 10m, and generated hydraulic pressure.
Since completing its tests at EMEC, AW-Energy has continued developing its WaveRoller concept with various tank tests and a larger sea deployment.
