EMEC is the world’s leading demonstration facility for testing wave and tidal energy technologies in the sea. Based in Orkney, the centre is also working on R&D projects looking at green hydrogen, floating wind and the decarbonisation of maritime and aviation sectors.

Commercial Officer (Graduate)

Salary: £29,500 -  £32,400  (plus contributory pension) | Type: Permanent
Location: Orkney | Hours: Full and part-time applications welcomed

We are looking for a graduate Commercial Officer to identify, develop and secure opportunities for EMEC to grow its portfolio of marine renewable energy projects.

As part of the Business Development team, you will support the development of winning proposals for public and privately funded projects in the renewable energy sectors, from initiation to contracting. As part of this function, you will support engagement with new developers of offshore renewable energy technologies and develop opportunities to test at EMEC in accordance with EMEC protocols, supporting clients with fundraising efforts, including grant applications and the development of open-access programmes to support such deployments.

In addition, you will lead the handover of offshore renewable energy projects to EMEC project delivery teams, and build and maintain strong networks in the sector, forming relationships with EMEC’s supply chain. You will work to maintain extensive knowledge of the offshore renewable energy market and feed learnings back into the organisation. There will be opportunities to represent EMEC at conferences and events and travel for networking opportunities.

Educated to HND level or above in a relevant subject, you will have well-developed critical and analytical skills, as well as the ability to write for a variety of audiences prioritise effectively, liaising with a variety of stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, the ability to form relationships quickly, and the ability to adapt information and present it in an advantageous manner are essential to the role.

Co-funded by Orkney Islands Council, this position is based in Orkney, and must be the applicant’s first graduate level job, commencing within 2 years of graduation.
