Day 2 | 28 January | Lessons Learned and future priorities, a test centre perspective
Rob Flynn will join this session to discuss the sector lessons learnt from EMEC’s experience as operating the world’s first and leading test centre of it’s kind in Orkney. The panel will also discuss what we as a sector should be focussing on in the 2020′s to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of marine energy.
Day 2 | 28 January | Alternative routes to deliver ocean energy | 11.00 – 12.15pm
Within this session Elaine Buck will present on the various alternative routes to delivering low carbon energy which are currently underway in Orkney. Including virtual energy systmes via the ReFLEX Orkney project; green hydrogen generation and deploying underwater data centres.
Day 3 | 29 January | Project showcase – tidal stream and tidal range | 13.15 – 14.30pm
From low velocity currents, array scale zones attracting global leaders, community off-grid solutions and future plans for tidal range, the sector is stimulating peripheral economies and providing innovative supply chain diversification and early mover advantage in a growing global market. Here from our client, Orbital Marine Power, on their deployment plans for the new Orbital o2 device due to be tested in Orkney later this year.

Join this webinar on Thursday 28 January 2021, 1400 – 1500, and hear about the lessons learnt from pilot farm projects so far and considerations to be made when going from a single device to an array deployment.
Deployment of ocean energy pilot farms in full operational conditions for long periods of time is essential to advance the sector. It is the only way to achieve high TRLs while reducing costs, reducing risks and attracting investors for future commercial projects.
Multi-device deployments are the next step in the tidal stream technology. A few pilot farms are currently in the water, with lots more in the pipeline for the next years.

Electrification can only go so far in achieving a carbon neutral economy. Hydrogen will play a key role in the decarbonisation of many areas of transport, heavy industry, and heating.
From the European Union to Australia, governments around the world are publishing hydrogen strategies pledging to ramp up production and uptake between now and 2050.
SPARK-H will support the growth of the clean hydrogen sector by showcasing the latest projects and innovations and providing a virtual space for partners across the value chain to meet, no matter where they are in the world. Spark-H is taking place online from 23 – 24 February 2021.

Day 2 | Tuesday 24 February | Panel discussion: Maritime
Managing Director, Neil Kermode, will be joining a panel session on maritime to discuss the how the use of green hydrogen can decarbonise the shipping industry. He will provide an overview of projects currently underway in Orkney which are striving to decarbonise the local inter isle ferry service. Within this session Neil will be joined by David Hannon, Strategic Projects Manager, Development and Infrastructure, at the Orkney Islands Council.

The H2FC Supergen Hub is holding an Innovation Workshop to bring research and industry communities together.
The online workshop will take place on Thursday 25 February & Friday 26 February 2021, 11:00-15:30 (GMT)
It will explore hydrogen and fuel cell technology challenges from an industry perspective and how academic and industry can best collaborate to achieve their goals. There will be talks from a number of industry leaders and key academics as well as opportunity for discussion and networking.
