News this week

Firstly a warm welcome back to our Managing Director, Neil Kermode, who has been in New Zealand at a conference and discussing opportunities for Marine Renewable. A positive and encouraging message was received, and the conference was well attended.

A number of visits to EMEC, not quite as Royal as HRH Prince Charles, but just as important, we have received visits from – a Norwegian delegation including Innovation Norway and various Norwegian Renewable Energy companies, Legal representatives from BTO and Lows who were interested in seeing how the work they perform for Renewable Energy companies translates in the real world, The Director of OFGEM, The Royal Mail, Rolls Royce, and Hydro Tasmania.

On the developer front, Aquamarine Power Ltd is on site installing their device Oyster, we look forward to working closely with them and providing support for the successful testing of their device. The photograph shows the frame being installed at the wave test site. TGL continue installation work at the tidal test site.

Our Research Team have been to various Equimar meetings related to different work packages for the project, and are continuously looking at means for partnering or being consortia members in projects related to our core business. Jennifer Norris, Research & Consents Manager can be heard on Radio 4, the Programme is due out on Sat 4th July at 6am, then repeated Thursday lunchtime-ish, related to the renewables industry on Orkney. In addition interviews of EMEC staff were represented as part of a documentary on Korean television which looked at the benefits of the renewalbles industry in Scotland, and why it is seen as so positive here.

Our commercial director, Richard Morris attended an interesting open day in Glasgow hosted by the TSB, in which discussions were held on their key research strands, funding opportunities and knowledge transfer networks, this was capped off by a second meeting in Inverness with other Highlands and Islands businesses interested in utilising TSB and ETI funding opportunities.

Just a reminder: The weekend of the 14th and 15th June will see many renewable energy businesses open for visitors, see the renewables festival website for further information. EMEC will have a representative at the Black Craig lookout point to describe to visitors what is happening down at the wave test site. Watch the Renewables Festival website, or EMEC’s, for further information.
