ABOUT SR MARINE CONFERENCE:
Wave and Tidal Energy: realising our ambitions
More wave and tidal devices have been deployed in Scotland’s Highlands and Islands than in the rest of the world combined. However, the continued lack of a viable route to market puts all of this in jeopardy. Join us as we debate the challenges and opportunities, learn about cutting-edge developments and set the agenda for the year ahead.

Constrained networks and the end of the feed in tariff scheme has affected the viability of new farm scale renewable energy projects. However the Scottish and UK Governments’ stated objectives of decarbonising the road transport and heat sectors will place greater demands on the distribution network and will require solutions at a local level. These in-clude a role in the production and utilisation of green hydrogen as a fuel. This meeting looks at what is taking place on Orkney, how the hydrogen economy is developing and at where opportunities for farmers to get involved exist. It will also cover the development of smart networks, battery storage and at heat pump technology which is increasingly being used for space heating and drying processes.
Agenda:
10:00 Registration
10:15 What’s next for farm scale renewables?
Jim Campbell, SAC Consulting
10:40 Hydrogen on Orkney – opportunities for the farming community
Jon Clipsham, EMEC
11:05 Coffee
11:25 Orkney Hydrogen Strategy
Jon Clipsham, EMEC
11:50 Heat pumps and decarbonising the heat sector (including a tour of the Warehouse Buildings sea water sourced heat pump)
John Farquhar, SAC Consulting
12:15 Lunch
13:15 Visit to Kirkwall hydrogen infrastructure
15:00 Depart
