ICOE side event: Workshop on wave energy converter technology requirement specification and performance metrics @ EICC

The US Department of Energy (DOE) and Wave Energy Scotland (WES) are organizing a joint workshop on wave energy convert (WEC) system requirements and performance metrics. The goal of the workshop is to reach out to the wider wave energy community to facilitate input into the important specification of WEC system requirements and the formulation of performance metrics.

Stuart Baird (EMEC Operations Director) and Elaine Buck (EMEC Technical Business Development Manager) will be attending.

ICOE side event: International WATERS workshop @ Premier Inn Haymarket

Connecting expertise from knowledge hubs and industry to support the development of the ocean energy sector

The next International WATERS workshop will take place on Friday 26th February 2016, following the International Conference for Ocean Energy (ICOE).

The workshop will build on the network established at EMEC’s global test centre symposium in 2013, and the workshop that took place in Canada at ICOE 2014.

Aim:

To bring together international open-water test sites to establish the global network focused on collaborative opportunities for test centres in support of the developing ocean energy industry.

Objectives:

  1. Share updates from the last 12 months on progress and challenges from facilities around the world
  2. Provide a forum to discuss key R&D topics
  3. Identify actions to forge relationships and knowledge transfer between test sites

Workshop: Hydrokinetic energy potential in Brazil

Lisa MacKenzie is speaking at a workshop in Brasília on 27th April 2016, looking at hydrokinetic energy potential in Brazil.

The workshop is being hosted by Eletronorte – Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil S/A, Federal University of Itajubá– UNIFEI, the National Reference Center on SHP´s – CERPCH, and the British Embassy in Brazil and is the final activity of the Brazil Prosperity Fund project ‘Hydrokinetic Power in Northern Brazil’.

The purpose of this workshop is to present the initial results of the project as well as to raise awareness about tidal and marine energy in Brazil.

WRc Innovation Day: Sharing Knowledge for a Changing World

Neil Kermode and Eileen Linklater will be attending the WRc’s Innovation Day on 27th April 2016.

Neil will be guest speaker at the WRc Innovation Awards the evening before the Innovation Day.  Taking place at the unique venue of the STEAM Museum in Swindon, this invitation only event will celebrate outstanding innovation across the water, waste and gas sectors.

Eileen will be one of the keynote speakers in the morning of the Innovation Day.  At 11.15 she will present: “Innovate, Collaborate, Generate – A Pathway to Commercialisation for New Technologies”.

The WRc Innovation Day provides a central stage for all to network, communicate, innovate, debate and collaborate to enable solutions to evolve which can be taken forward. The theme for 2016 is ‘Sharing Knowledge for a Changing World’ and will explore how our business world needs to adapt to changing forms of communication and behaviour and advances in technology.

Wave & Tidal Seminar Theatre

EMEC will be hosting two sessions within the Wave & Tidal Seminar Theatre: Wed 4th May 1230-1400 & Thurs 5th May 1120-1240.

Wave Energy Scotland’s Brokerage Event for the Third Call: Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes

Matthew Finn, EMEC’s Senior Business Development Manager, will be attending Wave Energy Scotland’s (WES) brokerage event for their third innovation call: Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes. The total for the call is £3 million with applications sought for up to £250,000 +VAT. FORESEA 1st Call Webinar

FORESEA logoThe €11m FORESEA programme will host a webinar focused on its first call for support package applications on 16 August from 11:00 – 12:00 CEST (10:00 BST start time).

The webinar’s aim is to bring stakeholders up to speed on how the programme works and what is eligible for support. It will also provide insights to help strengthen project applications. The webinar will be interactive, with participants able to ask questions during the event.

About FORESEA

The FORESEA programme was recently created to provide support for pre-commercial testing of ocean energy technologies in real-sea conditions, and help leverage further investment.

FORESEA can offer support packages to test at the following test centres:

  • European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC): Orkney Islands, UK
  • SEM-REV: Nantes, France
  • SmartBay: Galway, Ireland
  • Tidal Testing Centre: Den Oever, Netherlands

The first call for support package applications opened on 27 July, with a deadline of 21 September.
