September 2012 – September 2013
This year, OWET will host its Ocean Renewable Energy Conference in Portland, Oregon on September 26 & 27. This seventh annual conference is one of the oldest and most respected ocean energy conferences in the United States. The conference has a regional focus that, by virtue of Oregon’s position as one of the best places in the world for ocean energy, attracts leading experts from all sectors and geographies to attend each year.
Join community leaders, developers, utilities, state and federal regulators and guests from around the world to explore the many accomplishments of the past year and what can be done to accelerate the pace of development in Oregon, nationally and internationally.

The International Conference on Ocean Energy is the global marine energy event focused on the industrial development of renewable marine energy. Held every two years, the goal of the conference and exhibition is to share recent experiences from research and demonstration efforts. It aims to accelerate development by stimulating collaboration networks between companies and research and development centres. It also specifically targets engagement of the experience of operators in related marine and power industry sectors.
Eileen Linklater, EMECs Client Relationship and Marketing Manager is speaking at the event providing an update on the learning gained from testing 11 marine energy converters in Orkney. Full conference programme now available.
EMEC will also have a pod in the Scottish Development International area.
The 6th International Tidal Energy Summit is the commercial networking forum for industry stakeholders, device developers, service providers and manufacturers. This event delivers value to all the key individuals and companies that currently drive forward the marine energy industry.
Public information days are being held in Caithness and Orkney next week to provide an update to the public on the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters wave and tidal energy projects. EMEC will be present at both events joining various organisations from the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Leadership Forum, as well as project developers and other stakeholder groups.
The event in Thurso will take place at The Pentland Hotel on Wednesday 28th November from 3pm – 8pm.
The event in Kirkwall will take place at Kirkwall Town Hall on Thursday 29th November from 3pm – 8pm.

Scottish Renewables’ Annual Conference is the major industry event focused on the development of renewable energy in Scotland. This year’s event will introduce our new format:
Day 1 featuring a series of presentations and discussions on the ‘Big Issues’ for the industry by business-leaders, government and academia.
Day 2 introducing four conferences under one roof, the four pillars of Electricity Market Reform, Grid, Planning and Skills.
As part of National Science and Engineering Week, Eday Heritage and Visitor Centre is holding a Renewable Energy Day this Saturday, 23rd March 2013. The aim of the day is to explain the science and engineering behind renewable energy technologies through a range of themed activities.
The afternoon session (2pm – 4.30pm) is aimed at young people and families, looking at energy in its broadest sense, why sources of renewable energy are important, and how different types of technologies actually work. This will be hands on science and engineering appealing to a wide age range.
In the evening (7pm) representatives from ANDRITZ Hydro Hammerfest will be speaking about their 1MW tidal turbine – the HS1000 – followed by a chaired discussion. The evening will help put some of the recent activity on Eday into a scientific/engineering context and give residents a better understanding of what is happening on their doorstep.
As a backdrop to the day there will be a renewable energy display/exhibition to include marine energy information from EMEC, photographs of the construction of the Eday community turbine, working models, information about the sailed windmills used to grind grain in the past and a series of graphs and charts linking – for example – local weather conditions to power generation.
Neil Kermode is speaking at the Orkney Science Festival on Friday 6th September 2013.
10 YEARS OF WAVE AND TIDE
The world’s first and only centre for marine energy open-sea testing is 10 years old. EMEC is attracting to Orkney waters the leading edge of marine energy technology. Managing director Neil Kermode, joined by representatives of several companies working in Orkney waters, looks ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the next 10 years.
