Net Zero Careers

Reaching net zero is the key element to fighting global climate change, but reducing emissions is also an opportunity for highly skilled, long-term jobs that make a genuine difference to the world around us.

Join the European Marine Energy Centre and other organisations paving the road for net zero on July 15, to learn about potential employers, organisational culture, roles and sectoral requirements, to accelerate your career in renewables and net zero industries.

EMEC will be participating in the exhibition session from 15:30-16:15. Students will be able to click on our virtual ‘booth’ and chat with Molly Harris, HR Officer, and with Florence Ungaro, Marine Operations Specialist, to discover information on our organisation and about the opportunities at hand. Join EMEC as we take part in the Orkney International Science Festival 2021
2 September – 8 September 2021

This year marks the 31st Orkney International Science Festival which will commence at the beginning of September spanning a whole week. The festival will be of hybrid nature and will comprise of over 80 different events and activities, most of them taking place online for greater accessibility.

In the year of coasts and waters in Scotland, the festival will cover a broad spectrum of topic areas and expertise, from Orkney’s historical expeditions and the knowledge and relationships developed, all the way to how the archipelago is currently harnessing the power of the ocean to generate renewable energy and a growing knowledge economy and supply chain today. The OISF spans beyond Orkney’s geography, and covers the spectrum of science matters, from archeological expeditions to energy, ecosystem habitats, even touching on the possibility of extraterrestrial contact! Click on the video below for a sneak peak:

From EMEC, we will be participating in a variety of different events, sessions and virtual engagement activities. These will include hosting the session ‘Flights and Ferries to the Future’ on Thursday, 2 September to discuss innovations in hard-to-decarbonise transport sectors. The session will take place from 19:00-20:00, will include a variety of speakers and a Q&A panel at the end.

We have also contributed to the design and content of other didactic resources which will be available throughout the festival. Stay tuned for further updates on our participation at OISF 2021!

Online events will be streamed through the OISF YouTube Channel, where they will be made available to watch again after the event has taken place. Click on the video below to watch our session:
