Blog: UK support for marine energy technologies set to increase

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has published its decision on the levels of financial support for renewables. Support for wave and tidal energy technologies in England and Wales will more than double from 2ROCs to 5ROCs per MWh, subject to a 30MW limit per project.

This is a welcome and clear signal of the UK Government’s determination to provide essential support at this critical stage of the industry. We are already seeing the benefits of the development of the marine renewables sector here in Orkney, and this review demonstrates the importance placed on developing it into a national industry.
