News this week

This weekend Stromness will be buzzing with the arrival of the Tall Ships. Orkney is now expecting over 24 Tall Ships – half those which left Greenock – to visit the county between July 15 and 19 on a non-competitive ‘Cruise in Company’ leg between Greenock and Lerwick, as part of The Tall Ships Races 2011. For more information and the souvenir programme see the Orkney Marine Services website.

EMEC has established a webcam to view the Stromness Harbour over the weekend – apologies to anyone struggling to access the images but there has been exceptional demand causing our connection to crash!

In other news this week:

Aquamarine Power’s next-generation Oyster 800 wave energy device has been unveiled by Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond MSP – for the full story and first pictures of Oyster 800 see the Aquamarine Power website.

EMEC’s Operations Director, Stuart Baird visited Nova Scotia last week. The visit was primarily to attend and present at the Nova Scotia Tidal Symposium held in Halifax. The event was attended by over 120 local interested parties. Whilst in Nova Scotia, Stuart also had the opportunity to continue to establish closer links with FORCE, the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy with whom EMEC have a strategic alliance. This included a visit out to the test site at Parrsboro.
