TGL core sampling

Following the award of a grant from the Scottish Executive in February this year, Tidal Generation Limited (TGL) successfully completed a geotechnical investigation at the Fall of Warness tidal test site in May, obtaining three core samples.

The project secured valuable geotechnical data for the design of the foundation for TGL’s 500kW prototype turbine, which is on schedule for installation at the EMEC site in June 2008. In addition, it provided invaluable experience of operating in currents at the Warness site.

TGL would like to thank the contractors and the EMEC operations staff for their expert and focussed support as well as the local islanders who provided boats, anchors and willing support. The islanders of Eday deserve a special mention for advice during the planning stages and for looking after the team so well during the operations.
