News this week

An exciting and as usual, frantic, few days in Aberdeen last week at the All Energy Conference and Exhibition. Great turn out of visitors and stand holders and a real buzz in the air. Photo shows the EMEC stand there and if you visit EMEC in Stromness you will see the very same banners hanging in the foyer!

Whilst some staff were down South for the event, others were busy back in Orkney working with three developers on site. TGL and OpenHydro at the tidal test site and Aquamarine Power at the wave test site. Their jack up barge arrived in Stromness on Monday 18th May and is ready for the weather to abate to be able to begin the installation part of the project.

Visitors to EMEC around the time of All Energy included groups from Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) and Korea on fact finding visits to EMEC and the All Energy exhibition. Also Frank Faller, a lecturer at Calgary SAIT visited, gathering information for his locality on alternative energy.

The weekend of the 14th and 15th June will see many renewable energy businesses open for visitors, see the renewables festival website for further information. EMEC will have someone at the Black Craig lookout point to describe to visitors what is happening down at the wave test site. Watch the Renewables Festival website, or EMEC’s, for further information.

Two hellos in the last two weeks, one to Frances Groundwater, our new Administration Assistant and to Graham Bleakley, our new Senior Operations Engineer. Welcome to both and great to have you on board.

One goodbye also, to Edwina Cook, in Business Development, who will be leaving EMEC today. Good luck and very best wishes to her in her new job in Kirkwall. She will be keeping a close eye on EMEC activities from a distance and wishes all developers the best of luck and safe testing whilst in Orkney.
