News this week

A group from the Taiwan Ocean Research Institute (TORI) visited EMEC this week as part of their European tour. They are collecting information on marine renewables technology to inform the development of ocean energy resources in Taiwan. They were accompanied by Commercial Director, Richard Morris. Richard then headed off to Stirling to give a presentation on the work of EMEC to Community Energy Scotland.

Also visiting this week were: Michael Panagiotopolous, Head of Ocean Energy Department in the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources in Greece; Finnish Journalist, Anssi Miettinnen; and visitors from Lews Castle College in Stornoway.

We were also delighted to welcome some of the Mensa members from around the world who are in Orkney for the weekend as part of this year’s Scottish Mensa Annual Gathering. Events across the county will highlight Orkney’s past, present and future, including a visit to EMEC and the wave and tidal test sites.

Finally, (and importantly) developers OpenHydro (Tidal), TGL (Tidal) and Aquamarine (Wave) are continuing installation and testing work at both sites.
