John Swift, from the UK Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change visited our research team this week to discuss streamlining consents and decommissioning. He also took the opportunity to view the Billia Croo Wave test site and ongoing works there.

Jenny Norris (Research and Consents Manager) and John Lawrence (Hydrodynamicist) will be speaking at the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC) in Uppsala, Sweden next week. John will be presenting “High-resolution metocean modelling at EMEC’s (UK) marine energy test sites” on Wednesday 9th September 13.30-15.55 and Jenny will be presenting “European Marine Energy Centre: the development of a targeted environmental monitoring strategy and the streamlining of marine renewables consents in Scotland” on Thursday 10th September 13.00-15.25.

We were delighted to welcome a group of visitors to EMEC on Friday 4th September, who were in Orkney for the North Atlantic Islands Summit. EMEC’s Managing Director, Neil Kermode, gave a presentation and led discussion on marine energy potential in the North Atlantic area.
