Award for EMEC Managing Director

On Thursday 4th November CIWEM (the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) gave Neil Kermode, EMEC’s Managing Director the Jim Attwood Shield – an award for a senior figure who has made a significant contribution to industry.

Neil gave a lecture on how EMEC is spearheading the drive by the UK and Scotland to be the world leader in marine energy. As a CWEM member, Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist, Neil said:

“It is an honour for our work at EMEC to be recognised in this important branch of industry – it has already been a long journey to get the first prototype wave and tidal machines in the water, but I am delighted to be able to talk about all the pioneering work now taking place on our test sites in Orkney which is laying the groundwork for new future industry”.

Jim Attwood was head of Building and Construction at Inverness College who had a passion for learning, and who founded the Continuing Professional Development in Construction (Highlands and Islands) programme which brings together all the Chartered Institutes in Construction (Inverness is the only location in the UK where this occurs). The Jim Attwood Shield was made in memory of his work and presented on an annual basis.

Neil is pictured above being presented with the award by the Inverness Provost.
