News this week

This week EMEC decamped to Aberdeen for the All-Energy exhibition and conference, where we had a stand as part of the Orkney Pavilion. The show, held annually, was this year attended by almost 7000 visitors over two days. Neil Kermode spoke at the conference session “Wave and tidal – setting the scene” to give an EMEC update, and also chaired the “Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters” panel discussion.

Back on the exhibition stand, Richard Morris (Commercial Director) and Bill Edgar (Chair of the EMEC Board) met with Rt Hon Chris Huhne MP, recently appointed Secretary of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), to discuss marine energy and EMEC projects, including the forthcoming DECC-funded scale test sites. They are pictured above along with Max Carcas (Pelamis Wave Power) and Guy Lavender (Wavehub).

On Wednesday afternoon the Orkney Pavilion held a joint reception with HI-Energy, treating delegates to Orkney fudge, Orkney port and Highland Park whisky, kindly donated by the distillery. It was fantastic to see such a strong grouping of Orkney companies, demonstrating the growing local capacity which makes Orkney “the energy islands”. Well done to everyone involved in bringing it all together.
