News this week

We are delighted to announce that we have now appointed 3 members of staff to bolster the EMEC team – Congratulations to Dr Jennifer Norris, (our longest serving member of staff), who has been appointed Research Director, to Christina Bristow who is moving to Orkney to join EMEC as Research and Consents Assistant and to Jennifer Falconer as Data Technician.

Jenny Norris and John Lawrence attended a successful Equimar meeting in Denmark this week. The EquiMar project is funded by the European Commission and is a collaborative research and development project involving a consortium of 23 partners (for more information see the research page of our website). The aim of EquiMar is to deliver a suite of protocols for the equitable evaluation of marine energy converters and EMEC is involved in the environmental effects and resource characterisation aspects. Whilst in Denmark Jenny and John also had the opportunity to visit the Wavestar wave energy convertor installed there.

Today EMEC was visited by the BBC Countryfile film crew who were in Orkney to film a feature on marine energy. John Craven interviewed Neil Kermode on the potential for wave and tidal energy at Billia Croo and was accompanied to the Fall of Warness by Sue Barr of OpenHydro to visit their turbine. The programme (the UK’s most popular factual programme with 7 million viewers) will be broadcast on the evening of Sunday 16th May. Pictured above are Neil with John Craven and the film Crew.
