News this week
Working in difficult weather, we were happy to complete a cable test safely and successfully at our wave site this week. The Normand Tonjer (pictured above) arrived on site from Montrose to undertake the works on Monday, and was also one of the vessels who responded to the mayday search for a missing kayaker (thankfully found safe and well). Particular thanks to Brian J Rendall Electrical who were on board to assist with the works for longer than planned due to the adverse weather conditions.
Neil Kermode was in Ireland this week, speaking at the Irish Renewable Energy Summit 2010 in Dundalk. Looking toward 2050, Neil was talking on “Developing Marine Renewables Technologies” at the summit, attended by over 200 key decision-makers from across the Irish energy sector.
A small group of Community Powerdown Project Officers visited EMEC this week whilst training in Orkney. The Community Powerdown consortium was formed by Community Energy Scotland, Development Trusts and community groups. The consortium was successful in a bid to secure £1.5 million from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund for the first phase of a coordinated effort to achieve carbon reduction projects within the participating communities (including 5 projects in Orkney). For more information see the Community Powerdown Website.
