Happy New Year from a snowy Stromness! Whilst freezing conditions have made land-based work difficult these past weeks, work at sea continues at our test sites.

Tidal Generation Ltd are back on site at the Fall of Warness working on their installation with Subsea 7. Also, EMEC have deployed a waverider buoy north-west of St Mary’s Bay in Holm as we begin to gather data on potential locations for our new scale test sites.

Yesterday EMEC hosted a visit from Heriot Watt University. Professor Steve Chapman, University Principal; Peter Wilson, Secretary to the University; and Professor Alan Miller, Head of Research & Knowledge Transfer met Operations Director Stuart Baird, and Client and Marketing Manager Eileen Linklater. EMEC has strong links with the University via the International Centre for Island Technology with whom we share a building, and discussion centred on continuing and building upon these links for the future, and as the industry grows.
