News this week

EMEC are pleased to announce that the latest versions of draft standards and scopes are now accessible using this web-site. Click on ‘Standards’ on the banner above, and then ‘Abstracts’. We will keep you as up to date as possible by revising this site as the documents evolve. Please note that the development of some standards has progressed further than others; this is reflected in the various stages of the documents.

Please feel free to contact Andrew Want at EMEC if you would like to be put in touch with the authors and/or group leaders of these documents.

Jennifer Norris, our Research Manager, is down in Edinburgh today at the Scottish SEA meeting. More news to follow next week.

The Operations Team have been busy at Billia Croo this week, taking advantage of the fine and unseasonal weather, to do essential outside maintenance.

OpenHydro have also taken advantage of the weather out at the Fall of Warness and are continuing with their testing programme.

Visitors this week included Andrew Bolger, the Scottish Correspondent of the Financial Times. As I type, he will be enjoying the sunshine and hospitality of the island of Westray and having a tour of the renewable initiatives on that island. Yesterday, he met with Shona Croy from the Department of Economic development at Orkney Islands Council, Sandy Kerr from ICIT and Gina Penwarden from OREF.

We were also very pleased to welcome Trevor Raggatt to Orkney for the first time. Trevor is the Deputy Director – Bioenergy and Marine Energy Technologies, Emerging Energy Technologies, DBERR. See photograph of Neil Kermode, Managing Director and Trevor Raggatt at Billia Croo.
