News this week

Neil Kermode, Managing Director, is in Edinburgh at this end of the week, conducting business meetings.

Jennifer Norris, Research Manager, was at the final meeting of the SEA steering group last week, which discussed ways to take forward recommendations of the S.E.A.

Edwina Cook, Business Development officer, gave a talk to the Stromness Primary Seven class this week, to coincide with their Renewable Project. This was well received and the class came up with some great thoughts about the future. Their future, as I pointed out!

The beginning of the week saw a two day visit from a party from Nova Scotia in Canada. They were members of the Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company, who will be designing and building the common user facility and deploying a device in the Bay of Fundy, find out more. They were accompanied by Andrew Henry, Executive Director, Energy Research, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. After a trip out to the tidal test site, they visited EMEC’s offices and the Billia Croo wave site. They were also welcomed by Professor Jon Side at ICIT and Lord Wallace of Tankerness, who spoke to them about Orkney’s wider renewable projects at ICIT and OREF.

The photo was taken by our Research Assistant, Matthew Finn on a recent trip out to the Fall of Warness and shows a beautiful sunset highlighting OpenHydro’s tidal device.
