News this week

The annual cable survey at Billia Croo Wave Test Site took place last week and over the weekend. We hope to put some photographs on the website in due course.

Developers have been operational at both Wave and Tidal Test Sites this week.

There was a successful kick-off meeting of EQUIMAR last Thursday and Friday in Edinburgh. Jennifer Norris gave an update on EMEC’s research and monitoring activities which was well received.

EMEC hosted a visit by Dr David Clarke and Grant Bourhill of the Energy Technology Institute in Loughborough on Thursday and Friday (pictured above). In fantastic weather they visited the Fall of Warness Tidal Site and also the Wave Test Site at Billia Croo. Their arrival on Thursday coincided with the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the first mail flight into Orkney and so they were treated to a wonderful fly past of bi-planes including a De Haviland similar to the one used in the first flight.
