News this week

All-Energy 2008 proved to be as busy as it ever was last week and we had a steady stream of visitors to the stand. EMEC were assisting both developers and the National Museum in Edinburgh to display information and this was of great interest to our visitors.

You may have noticed the new animation on our website – accessed through Research – Hydrodynamic modelling done by DHI. Again, these animations were of great interest to visitors to the stand at All-energy. A fully spectral model of the Orkney Islands is being built by DHI and once complete it will be used to calculate the 20 year wave climate at both test sites for developers to use in device design.

Justine Saunders, Marine Consultant with ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd and Dr Emma Sheehan of PRIMaRE (Peninsula Research Institute for Marine Renewable Energy) visited both test sites this week and met with EMEC staff, particularly Jennifer Norris, Research Manager. Although they had experienced Orkney in glorious sunshine, as you can see above, winter conditions returned on Wednesday!
