News this week

EMEC has welcomed two members of the Scottish Government to their offices over the past two weeks – Fiona Harrison (Head of the Marine Transition Unit); Ian Davies, FRS; Phil Alcock, Marine Management Division; and Evanthia Karpouzli, Ecological Advisor visited on July 22nd. They went out to the Fall of Warness and out to Eday and also visited the Wave Test Site at Billia Croo. Fiona is Head of the Unit co-ordinating the Scottish Marine Management Organisation.

Mike Russell, the Scottish Minister for the Environment accompanied by Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and SNH representatives visited Eday and the Tidal Site with Neil Kermode our Managing Director on July 31st.

The 25th July saw a group of ex-Stromness Academy pupils reliving their secondary years of 30-40 years ago. Interesting to note that EMEC’s floor in the Old Academy was the home of English, French & Latin. Mixed memories from many of the former pupils!

Tuesday 29th July saw the visit of Murray Bainbridge, Scottish Enterprise based in Dumfries & Galloway.

Work on the Tidal Site continues with one developer progressing with their test programme and another developer carrying out preparatory installation work.
