News this week

We were very pleased to welcome John Lawrence into EMEC this week, taking up his position as Hydrodynamicist. He is making Orkney his home, soon to be followed by his family and has relocated from his previous home on Bodmin Moor and his work at Plymouth University. Glad to have you on board John!

Watch the website for the inclusion of an EMEC Who’s Who, with a precis of staff and board responsibilities and photos.

John Mason the Director of Environmental Quality, Climate Change and Water Industry for the Scottish Government visited on 5 August together with Jeremy Baster, OIC Director of Development Services. John had requested the visit especially and we were delighted that Jennifer Norris our Research Manager was given the opportunity of presenting details of EMEC’s research programme.

Duncan Mackay and Jack Steven of The Crown Estate and Louise Smith of the Pentland Alliance visited on 5 August also and met with OREF members.

A welcome also to Aquamarine Power Ltd who began their residence in EMEC’s offices this week and met staff and local businesses.

We also had the pleasure of a visit by George Lyon, European Candidate and Liam McArthur Orkney MSP on 7 August. They met with Edwina Cook, Client Relationship Officer and toured Billia Croo – see photograph. (As an aside, Liam had a prior arrangement at 1830 that evening playing for the Burray football team against Holm, in which team our Research Assistant, Matthew Finn was playing. Our lips are sealed as to the outcome.

The Research Advisory Group has been formed and the first meeting is planned in late September. Further details are to follow on the Research section of the website.
