News this week
Last week in Edinburgh, Neil Kermode, Managing Director, presented at and chaired a session of the UK-Canada Marine Energy Workshop 2008 arranged by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This very useful two day event explored the opportunities for the expansion of the co-operation between the UK and Canada in exploiting marine energy.
Neil also attended the 2008 SUPERGEN event at Edinburgh University. Posters of the assorted research projects underway throughout the consortium were on disply and the audience heard several presentations on interesting new research activities. An advisory group was established for SUPERGEN and Neil has agreed to chair it.
John Lawrence, Hydrodynamicist, is in Hyeres in France this week at a Nortek Training Event. Next week, he goes to Brest to firstly, the Equimar meeting and then to the International Conference, Offshore Engineering.
Work on site at the Wave Test Site by Aquamarine Power Ltd, continues.
Visits this week included a short visit by Mike Iletts form Eday. A resident of Eday, Mike is employed by our local High Voltage Electrical Engineer, as an on call man on Eday for EMEC duties. In fact, Mike is one of three personnel employed part time by BJR Electrical, known fondly as “The Eday Three”!
Folllowing on the Canadian theme, we were very pleased to welcome Melanie Nadeau to EMEC on Monday and Tuesday this week. Melanie is Manager, Marine Energy, Renewable Energy Technologies, CANMET, Natural Resources Canada, and is Chair of TC 114: Marine energy – Wave and tidal energy converters. Also visiting EMEC this week, are a group of post graduate art and architecture students from Edinburgh School of Art.
