Blog: EMEC staff kayaking day

EMEC staff and families were treated to an exciting kayaking taster session on Saturday. After getting to grips with a few key skills at the Hatston slip – paddling in a straight line is a lot harder than it looks – we went on a small expedition to Hatston Pier. We had the brilliant, if slightly-eerie, experience of kayaking under the pier, and quite aptly kayaked under the Tidal Generation Ltd turbines as they gear up to deploy their new 1MW device.

Thanks to Christina Bristow, Research and Consents Assistant, for organising the event, and to John, Peter and Dennis from Kirkwall Kayak Club for their fantastic instruction. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
