EMEC gearing up for busy week at ICOE 2016

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) is a proud supporter of the 6th International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) taking place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre next week (23-25 February 2016).

EMEC is exhibiting on stand 95 at ICOE, with a plethora of activities planned throughout the week.

 Monday 22 February

  • Orkney day trip: Kicking off the week, EMEC is hosting a day trip to Orkney in collaboration with Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The action-packed itinerary will take delegates to the main marine renewables sites around Orkney to learn more about EMEC and the unprecedented level of marine renewables activity that has taken place on the islands over the last decade. Delegates will also meet with developers and members of the Orkney supply chain during the event.

 Tuesday 23 February

  • Scotland’s Energy Minister, Fergus Ewing, will open the conference with his keynote address on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Poster session, P1: EMEC’s Operations Director, Stuart Baird, is presenting a poster on the data collection and environmental monitoring activities that take place at EMEC in the ‘Sensing and Monitoring’ poster session at 1415.

 Wednesday 24 February

  • EMEC speed updates: EMEC has organised a programme of speed updates to take place on stand 95 during the lunch break (1330-1445). This session will comprise a series of quick-fire updates from EMEC, the technology developers using our sites, and some of our project partners. The programme repeats on Thursday 25.
  • Session C7: Oliver Wragg, EMEC’s Commercial Director is speaking in the ‘Certification and Standards’ session at 1445 discussing the benefits of global collaboration in marine renewables.

 Thursday 25 February

  • EMEC speed updates: EMEC’s speed update lunchtime session will be repeated on Thursday at 1230.
  • Plenary A9: Neil Kermode, EMEC’s Managing Director is a panellist in the ‘Custodians of the Future: Creating an Industry for Future Generations’ session at 0930.
  • Session B12: Neil will also be chairing the ‘Test Centre Demonstrations: Customers and test centres share all’ session at 1515.
  • Integrated Monitoring Pod Drop-in/Q&A: EMEC is holding an informal drop-in session (1430-1600, Carrick Suite) to answer your questions about the recent deployment of our Integrated Monitoring Pod, which was successfully trialled at our tidal test site in Orkney in 2015.

 Friday 26 February

  • International WaTERS workshop: Following the conference, EMEC is hosting the next International WaTERS workshop, bringing together international open-water test sites to build on the network established at EMEC’s global test centre symposium in 2013. This workshop will focus on building a global network looking at collaborative opportunities for test centres in support of the developing ocean energy industry.

With a variety of side & social events to delve into on top of that, this busy week promises to be one of the most exciting marine renewables events of the year.
