Blog: Renewables showcased at Commonwealth Games
Renewable energy has been showcased at the Commonwealth Games in a couple of short videos.
The first, launched by Scottish Renewables, highlights the benefits of renewable energy to Scotland. The video, and corresponding infographic, is designed to communicate the key advantages of renewable energy to Scotland in terms of energy generation, the economy, our people and communities and the environment.
For example, did you know that Scotland produces the equivalent of almost half our electricity demand from renewables? – more than doubling output since 2007.
The second video, launched by John Swinney (Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth in the Scottish Government) at the Commonwealth Games Business Conference, highlights the world leading role Scotland has in various sectors including marine renewables. The video features footage of wave and tidal energy devices generating electricity at EMEC’s test sites in Orkney.
