EMEC have been very busy over the past 2 weeks both in and out of the county and the country! Neil Kermode, MD, was at the SRF conference in Edinburgh, and Chris White Test Engineer ,was at a cable fault course in Chester. Jenny Norris, Research Manager, was involved in many research and consenting related meetings, not least, a Marine Scotland meeting in Aberdeen earlier this week and a UKERC workshop on 24th March.
The quarterly Board Meeting took place in Glasgow last week.
Neil has attended the Marine FREDS meeting in Edinburgh this week. He was also delighted and honoured to be invited to the Town House Aberdeen, by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter Stephen on 31st March, to attend a luncheon to commemorate the visit of the President of the United Mexican States, Felipe Calderon and His Royal Highness, The Duke of York.
Visitors have included Briggs Marine to the tidal test site and offices, Mike Travis from Energy Solutions (EU) Ltd and Kevin Nassiep, CE of the South African Energy Research Institute. EMEC were very interested to hear of South Africa’s plans to introduce and expand renewable sources of energy and look forward to future contact with SANERI.
John Lawrence, Hydrodynamicist and Roy Temple, Maintenance Technician, were both at Ocean Business 2009 in Southampton this week. John proceeded on to Equimar in Bilbao, in between moving his family up to Orkney! Roy proceeded to the Fall of Warness, where he successfully deployed an ADCP. He will be straight from there to Billia Croo, where a team is mobilising for a ROV survey.
Operations staff, the 2 Chris’, were out in Eday this week, installing a transformer ready for a developer’s deployment this year.
SMRU and EMEC were working on the Fall of Warness last week with a sonar developer, in a joint research project.
Finally, the photo above shows the EMEC/OREF visit to Flotta on Tuesday this week, taking in the Talisman Oil Terminal and the Opus Lab facilities. A very interesting and informative visit, broadening our knowledge of the facilities available for developers. Many thanks to those who hosted us.
