News this week
This week saw Heriot Watt’s Orkney campus ICIT (International Centre for Island Technology) hold a MASTS (Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland) event in Stromness. The MASTS community is composed of nine research establishments across Scotland with a joint mission to create international excellence in marine science. The objectives of this week’s workshops were to identify potential research initiatives, themes and collaborations drawing on the broad experience of the MASTS communities and associated bodies in the public and private sectors. Matthew Finn, Research and Project Coordinator took part representing EMEC.
Neil Kermode, EMEC’s Managing Director has been invited to speak at various events recently including the European Future Energy Forum in London, and the Minerals Engineering Society Symposium in Nottingham in the last week. Neil and Eileen Linklater also attended Innovate10 in the Business Design Centre in London – the Technology Strategy Board’s showcase event for technology innovation. EMEC took part in a joint stand at the event alongside NaREC and Wave Hub. Our three organisations form a marine energy testing alliance – providing a technology route map for wave and tidal energy prototypes, and demonstrating the UK’s world leading offering. We will also be exhibiting the joint stand at the RenewableUK Annual Conference in Glasgow. This year there will be a specific wave & tidal event, including a dedicated exhibition hall where you will find us on Day 2 (3 November 2010) – we’ll look forward to meeting people there.
