News this week

EMEC hosted a visit from SNH’s Scientific Advisory Committee this week. The group took a trip to the Black Craig to see wildlife observations underway at the wave test site. For further information on the monitoring projects see the research webpage.

We were also visited by members of the Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership, representatives from the Center for Ocean Energy Technology of Florida Atlantic University, and Steven Chapman, Peter Wilson and Anne Marie Dalton from Heriot Watt University.

On Saturday 12 June EMEC, as part of the Scottish Renewables Festival, took part in an exhibition in the Stromness Community Centre on current regeneration projects around the town. Around 150 people dropped in to the event which was organised by Orkney Islands Council.

EMEC were invited to meet with Shetland Charitable Trust Marine Energy Group last week – Neil Kermode and Eileen Linklater were given a tour of Shetland’s infrastructure and facilities as well potential wave and tidal sites.

Finally, Eileen also travelled to Eday last week to speak at the Community Powerdown conference being held on the island. Community Powerdown Officers from across the Highlands and Islands met to discuss community carbon reduction projects, and had a tour of the EMEC tidal test site on the new Eday Fast Boat. See Community Powerdown for more information.
