Standards

In addition to its services for developers of devices, the European Marine Energy Centre is leading the way on the development of standards, and has launched the first performance assessment for Wave Energy Converter systems in the open-sea test facilities. This sets out how to characterise an area of the sea in terms of its energy levels and use this along with power measurement to assess conversion efficiency. This standard is to provide a uniform methodology that will ensure consistency and accuracy in the measurement and analysis of the power performance of wave energy conversion systems.

As well as performance standards, future work will include the development of standards for design, engineering, manufacturing and safety.
