Blog: Introducing our new Acoustic Engineer
We are pleased to introduce the newest member of our Research and Consents Team, Michael Butler, who has recently taken on the newly created role of Acoustic Engineer. Michael’s primary role is to further develop EMEC’s acoustic surveying capabilities with support from bioacoustic researchers at Loughborough University.
Originally from the far end of the country, in deepest Kent, Michael moved to Scotland in 2002 to begin his MA (Hons) in Music & Philosophy at Edinburgh University. Not content with staying solely in the arts, he proceeded to complete an MSc in Neuroscience before working towards a PhD in Bioacoustics in the engineering department at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). After a brief stint looking after some VIP ospreys for the Scottish Wildlife Trust, his interests finally collided when he unwittingly stumbled across EMEC whilst on holiday in Orkney.
As an enthusiast for wildlife, water sports and renewable energy, he is already feeling right at home in Orkney whilst looking forward to keeping chickens and finally getting his hands on an electric vehicle.
Welcome to the team Michael.
