Blog: EMEC welcome back a familiar face
We are delighted to welcome back, newly appointed Metocean Data Manager, Joe Thompson. Starting at EMEC back in 2011, he previously worked as a Data Technician. Joe has recently returned home from his travels in Indonesia to re-join the EMEC team. Now a couple of weeks in, Joe is settling back into the swing of things and is excited to see how he can play his part in supporting the marine energy industry.
“The position at EMEC seemed like a logical continuation of my previous role, with greater responsibility and a chance to work on and move along our data strategy,” says Joe. ”But more than that, it gives me greater opportunities to make a difference to the industry, with EMEC being at the centre of the ever moving and adapting sector.”
Joe is responsible for EMEC’s data management, overseeing the collection, manipulation, quality control and dissemination of data. He is also responsible for developing EMEC’s Data Management and Dissemination Strategy which is focused on making it easier for industry and academia to access EMEC’s data to accelerate development throughout the sector.
Outside of work, it only seems fitting that someone with a passion for marine energy spends most of his spare time in the water, be it in the pool playing octopush (underwater hockey) or out tackling the waves in some of Orkney’s golden surfing spots.
We wish Joe the best of luck in his new role.
