Blog: EMEC feature on Country File

“Orkney’s docks are creaking under the weight of new designs” Tom Heap

EMEC featured on Country File last night, following a visit to Orkney last month. The programme explored the potential of tidal stream and tidal range power throughout the UK, focusing on the innovative tidal stream developments that are taking place here in Orkney, and on the proposed barrage in the Severn Estuary in England.

“When it comes to getting power from our seas, you have to test them against the elements, and those elements rarely come tougher than here in Orkney” Tom Heap

During the programme, Tom Heap speaks to EMEC’s Eileen Linklater at the EMEC wave test site, and Scotrenewables’ Barry Johnston whilst towing the SR250 tidal turbine to the EMEC tidal test site.

If you missed it, you can watch it again on iPlayer: Country File

“The work that’s going on here in Orkney right now is cutting edge, it’s incredibly exciting” Eileen Linklater
