Weather warning: Data warning
Wild weather is heading our way with winds of up to 100mph forecast tonight and into the weekend. With wild winds come wild waves, so keep an eye on our live wave data feeds on our website to see what’s happening at our wave test site at Billia Croo on the west coast of Orkney.
PLEASE NOTE: As the data is streamed live, it is not quality controlled, so there may occasionally be anomalies in the live data (including unusual spikes). Due to the way that the waverider buoys work, extreme weather can occasionally cause incorrect readings that do not accurately represent the real wave height.
The largest wave we’ve recorded to date was over 19 metres high (about 1.5km from the shore) back in March 2013.
