The European Marine Energy Centre, based in Stromness, was established in 2003 to provide the developers of wave and tidal energy devices with the world’s first purpose built test facility.
The continued international growth of interest in this potential new energy source is being matched by increased demand for EMEC’s services and therefore, further staff are being sought to join the present small team.
These posts are new and will thus provide the appointees with the opportunity to shape the company and elements of the marine renewables industry through the groundbreaking work about to be undertaken.
Test Engineer: The successful applicant will be highly motivated to ensure that the SCADA and HV systems at EMEC have high levels of availability & reliability. They will assist in the manipulation, management, quality control and dissemination of data, providing data, surveys and reports to developers to assist with design and operation of wave and tidal devices.
They will work with developers to solve operational problems of a technical or data-related nature in a safe and controlled manner.
Engineering Technician: The successful applicant will assist in maintaining availability and proper functioning of all HV electrical connections and SCADA and other IT systems associated with the test sites.
They will work with developers to solve operational problems of a technical or data-related nature by providing the first line technical support at substation sites (wave & tidal) including “engineer level” maintenance of SCADA and other IT systems.
The applicant must be able to prepare method statements/risk assessments and produce safe work practice documentation for approval.
Both posts will be based in Orkney and are permanent positions.
The closing date for all applications is 12 noon on Thursday 27 May 2010 with interviews planned for Monday 7th June for the Test Engineer and Tuesday 8th June for the Engineering Technician.
