The European Marine Energy Centre, based in Stromness, was established in 2003 to provide the developers of wave and tidal energy devices with the world’s first purpose built test facility.

The continued international growth of interest in this potential new energy source is being matched by increased demand for EMEC’s services and therefore, further senior staff are being sought to join the present small team.

Both Director posts are new and will thus provide appointees with the opportunity to shape the company and elements of the marine renewables industry through the groundbreaking work about to be undertaken.

Operations Director:

The successful applicant will have a passion for, and experience of, working in challenging marine environments. They will exhibit strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills, have a demonstrable ability to innovate when required and create a constructive working relationship with the client base. They will be used to working independently and within a small team of professionals.

The post will be based in Orkney.

Commercial Director:

The successful applicant will be highly experienced in negotiating and monitoring contracts. They will be an excellent communicator, persuasive and with an ability to establish and maintain industry wide relationships and be able to identify and introduce new income streams for the company.

The post may be based outwith Orkney, but frequent and extended visits to Orkney will be required.

Senior Operations Engineer:

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of the safe and effective supervision of complex engineering tasks in the field. This experience would preferably be in the offshore or electrical sectors. They will exhibit strong organisational and interpersonal skills and have a demonstrable ability to deliver projects to time, cost and quality.

The post will be based in Orkney and will be part of an on call duty manager rota.

The closing date for all applications is Monday 16 Feb 2009 with initial interviews planned for 3 & 4 March for the Commercial Director and 10 & 11 March for the Operations Director. A further interview around 16 March may be required for the Directors. The Senior Operations Engineer interview will be on 12 March.
