News this week

Orkney is lying under a beautiful blanket of snow this week, but at sea there is no rest for the marine renewables industry, as Tidal Generation Ltd continue working at our tidal site with the Seven Sisters DP vessel prior to deploying their turbine in the New Year.

At the wave site, visitors to Billia Croo will notice that Aquamarine Power’s Oyster flap is no longer visible in the waves. After more than 500,000 back-and-forth cycles since it was first raised on 23 October, the flap is down on the seabed in the maintenance position. This was done by opening valves on the Oyster flap and letting it fill with seawater until it settled onto its maintenance latches where it will stay until further inspection and maintenance is undertaken in the New Year.

As we approach the end of 2009, we can reflect on a very exciting year for EMEC. Thank you to all our clients, suppliers, government and regulatory agencies, media and visitors from around the world, and everybody in the local community for continued support and cooperation.

Merry Christmas!
