News this week

Stromness is again lying under a blanket of snow this week, causing some disruption to local movements.

Recent wintry weather has not held back the EON P2, however, which was again out on our site at Billia Croo for testing. Construction works in preparation for Aquamarine’s Oyster 2 development are also continuing onshore at the wave site.

Last week we were pleased to hear that two works licences, for EMEC’s new scale test sites, have been given the go-ahead by Orkney Islands Council. The applications, in respect of a scale tidal device test site in the Shapinsay Sound and a scale wave device test site in Scapa Flow, were granted with the additional condition that before the deployment of the multi-purpose moorings anchors, a survey is undertaken to avoid potential impacts to the habitat.

Lastly, good luck to everyone competing in tomorrow’s Stromness Swimming Club Gala, sponsored by EMEC.
