International Standards
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has announced the formation of Technical Committee (TC) 114: Marine Energy – Wave and Tidal Energy Converters
The IEC is now recruiting experts from around the world to become part of TC114. BSI will assist with submission of names. The TC114 committee is chaired by Melanie Nadeau of Canada and BSI will act as Secretariat.Please click here for the full IEC press release regarding TC 114.
BSI British Standards is responsible for development of UK standards and representing the UK by interfacing with international standards bodies.
Now that an International TC has been formed, each participating nation will form a Mirror Committee – in the UK’s case this will be designated PEL 114. John Griffiths of EMEC has agreed to take the Chair for the first year after which a Chairman will be elected for a longer period.
A number of the UK’s draft standards have been submitted as a suggested work programme for TC 114, they are:- Wave Performance Testing
- Tidal Performance Testing
- Wave Resource Assessment
- Tidal Resource Assessment
- Grid Interface
- Manufacture and Factory Testing
Also the draft guideline
- Independent Verification and Validation of Ocean Energy Devices will be referred to the separate international body the “Certification Advisory Board” to be progressed.
