Blog: Orkney Renewable Energy Exhibition opens in Stromness
Did you know:
- Orkney generates more electricity on average than it consumes, with 1 in 12 households producing their own power?
- Orkney hosts more grid-connected wave and tidal energy devices than any other single site in the world?
- Orkney employs over 400 people locally in its renewable energy industry?
Orkney plays a world-leading role in renewable energy and to showcase this a new exhibition has been launched in Stromness. Situated in the Old Commercial Hotel on Victoria Street, the exhibition is open Monday to Friday: 10am – 4pm.
Jan Falconer, Head of Strategic Development and Regeneration at Orkney Islands Council, officially opened the Orkney Renewable Energy Exhibition yesterday afternoon during Stromness Shopping Week. Prior to cutting the ribbon, Jan highlighted how important renewables are to Orkney today, with 103% of our own electricity needs already being generated by renewables, smashing national targets by seven years. And that is only the tip of the iceberg…
Hosted by Orkney Renewable Energy Forum (OREF), and featuring displays from local companies working in this burgeoning sector, the exhibition is free to attend.
