Blog: EMEC raft race 2016
The annual EMEC summer BBQ took on a whole new shape this year with the introduction of the big EMEC raft race.
Four teams took part in a highly competitive and thrilling race on rafts skilfully designed and built by teams set up within EMEC. The teams had several weeks to gather their resources and work together to design their rafts and prepare to build and set sail on the day; the effort that everyone had put in was clear to see. The race was close and not without a bit of piracy, sabotage and a last ditch attempt to win by Joe abandoning his raft and making a solo swim for the finish line. Despite all of that it was ‘Hawaii -5 – oh no’ that made it to the finish first (check out the video on our Facebook page).
The rest of the evening was spent enjoying good food, good company and some great games that the whole EMEC team had worked together to plan and facilitate including a scavenger hunt, marine renewables charades and fun with spaghetti!
All in all the weather behaved and a good time was had, what more can you ask for?
