AW Energy
Founded in 2002 in Finland, AW-Energy is focused on developing their wave energy converter – WaveRoller. The WaveRoller device is a plate anchored on the sea bottom. The back and forth movement of the tidal surge moves the plate, transferring the kinetic energy created to a piston pump.
The company was the second developer to use EMEC’s facilities, and the first to test sub-systems at EMEC, when they tested components for their device at Billia Croo in 2005. The device was fully submerged and generated hydraulic pressure.
Since completing their tests at EMEC, AW-Energy has deployed a larger operational machine at Peniche in Portugal comprising 3 x 100kW units.
