Day 1 | Wave Energy Technology Showcase | 1100 – 1215
Steven Nauwelaerts, CEO of Laminaria, is giving a quick fire update alongside other leading wave energy technology developers on the latest advancements of their technologies.

EMEC’s Programme Manager, Nic Wallet, is presenting on the latest funding options available to marine energy developers. There will be a chance following the presentations for delegates to meet the speakers to better understand how the funding avenues work and how their technologies and projects can benenfit.

Orbital Marine Power’s, Chris Milne, is part of a panel disucssing the best ways to bring public and private investment together, sharing the experience gained from their successful £7m crowdfunding round early this year

About OEE 2018:
The annual Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition is the meeting point for the whole ocean energy sector. Over 400 professionals from all parts of the industry and from 20+ countries come to meet the right people in the busy exhibition hall and get an update on the sector’s latest news in the conference.
The TAP2G workshop aims to bring together industry experts from Europe and USA to draw on collective expertise and identify common areas of interest to move the hydrogen industry forward with Power to Gas deployments and highlight areas of opportunity for transatlantic collaboration.
In addition to the workshop, delegates are invited to an evening networking dinner on 3 October and an optional site visit in the afternoon on 4 October Kittybrewster Hydrogen Refuelling Station.
The event is being co-hosted by the European Marine Energy Centre (Orkney, Scotland) and the Institute of Gas Innovation and Technology at Stony Brook University (New York, USA) in association with the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association. The workshop forms part of the new Aberdeen Hydrogen Festival and has been scheduled to follow the SHFCA Annual Conference on Wednesday 2 October.

The turn of the tide: why marine energy is tomorrow’s renewable energy | Tuesday 8 October | 1430 – 1500
Olver Wragg, Commercial Director is speaking within this session, highlighting how marine energy can contribute to the EU’s clean energy transition. Oliver will address what the industry’s major challenges in moving forward are, as well as reviewing the key successes, especially from being involved in several Interreg North-West Europe projects supporting innovation from real-sea testing.

The PERISCOPE partnership invites you to join them and other international stakeholders in Brussels on 5th November 2019 to discuss how the North Sea Region can achieve global leadership in the blue economy, with a special focus on EU programming towards 2030.

ABOUT ITES 2018:
Tidal Energy is a viable alternative to fossil fuels but deploying the technology commercially has proven difficult to date. As an industry, we need to deliver on these projects, work together to find practical solutions, and put the industry on the front foot again.
But, this is not easy. Proving technology to secure finance, create bankable projects and ultimately lower LCOE are major challenges, challenges we must overcome.
The International Tidal Energy Summit is an opportunity to make this step change. To bring together the stakeholders who can truly influence the future of the Tidal Energy industry.

Oliver Wragg will be presenting within the Energy Revolution hub session on the ReFLEX (Responsive Flexibility) Orkney project, which will demonstrate a first-of-its-kind Virtual Energy System (VES) interlinking local electricity, transport, and heat networks into one controllable, overarching system. Finfd out more on how the the project aims to create a ‘smart energy island’, demonstrating the energy system of the future, which will reduce and eventually eliminate the need for fossil fuels.

As part of POWERGEN Europe, Oliver will be giving a presentation on ‘ReFLEX | How Orkney is building flexibility into a renewables dominated energy system’. Orkney currently generates 120% of its energy demand through renewables sources, and Oliver will speak about how this can be built into a flexible energy system for the islands.

EMEC and project partners would like to invite you to attend two tidal workshops that we are holding on Tuesday 12 November, the day following the International Tidal Energy Summit.
9.30am – 11am: MONITOR Tidal Developer Forum: Share learnings and provide feedback into this reliability focused project and support the progression of tidal energy.
11.30am – 1pm: Ocean_2G Tidal energy converter, testing & demonstration: end of project workshop. Providing insight into deployment and installation of Magallanes Renovables ATIR tidal platform by Leask Marine, sharing learning from testing at EMEC, power generation and project learnings & challenges.
Both events will be held in the Canary Riverside Plaza in London.

Neil Kermode, Managing Director, will be giving a keynote address to the Institute of International & European Affairs, demonstarting how the alchemy of turning seawater into electricity has finally been proven to be both predictable and achievable. He will argue that much of the development has occurred in the remote archipelago of Orkney and has spurred an energy revolution which has led to hydrogen and the mass roll out of electric vehicles. Mr Kermode will provide a personal perspective on the potential of marine energy to tackle climate issues and develop a new economy for the 21st century.
